Future Events

The parish is pleased to welcome Father Angelo and Father Neil Brett (former Headmaster of St. Edmund’s School, Portsmouth). Both priests have been here before and they will be staying with Father Glaysher for a few days over the Christmastide. They will be offering some of the Masses in St. Mary’s.

There was welcome news for the Ordinariate just before Christmas when they heard that their bishop, Monsignor Keith Newton, will be visiting St. Mary’s over the Epiphany weekend. He will offer the Ordinariate Mass at 9.15 a.m. and will be present for the 11.00 a.m. Mass.

Father Glaysher has now moved into the convent accommodation in Presentation House. The old Presbytery will be renovated during the next six months. The new parish hall (St. Thérèse’s Hall) now occupies the ground floor of Presentation House. The hall will now be used, on a regular basis, by the Children’s Liturgy group, the First Communion class and the Sunday Mass refreshments. To book either this hall or the old hall, please contact Anne Doran (01983 563061).

Feast of the Epiphany

This is celebrated in the old calendar on the traditional 12th day – Friday, 6th January. There will be no morning Mass on that day at St. Mary’s, but there will be an Extraordinary Form Latin Mass at 6.00 p.m., following the First Friday Exposition from 5.30 p.m.

In the present church calendar the feast has been transferred to Sunday 8th January. On this day there will also be an Appeal at all Masses for the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (S.P.U.C.).

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

The annual Bembridge Ecumenical Social in the Village Hall is on Saturday, 21st January at 7.00 p.m., with the Ecumenical Church Service this year at St. Michael’s at 6.00 p.m.

St. Peter’s C. of E. Church, Seaview, is the host this year for the service on the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul (25th January) at 2.30 p.m. Father Glaysher has accepted an invitation to preach.

First Communion

Our First Holy Communion programme commences in January. Parents of all children who wish to receive the Sacraments of Penance (Confession) and Holy Communion in June, 2012 should apply now to the parish office (Tel. 812127)

New Parish Hall

The new hall in the Presentation House (which was the old convent) is now in use. Tea / coffee is now served here on Sundays after the 11-00am Mass, and it is also now used by the children for their Sunday Liturgy classes and by the First Communion groups.

There are some restrictions on the use of the hall. To book this hall or the main parish hall, please telephone Anne Doran (01983 563061).
